| Since 1940, Mamiya has been designing and engineering the finest quality
cameras and lenses for the professional photographer. In their continued support
and dedication for existing Mamiya shooters, Mamiya has developed its first
digital capture back. The Mamiya ZD digital back has been exclusively designed for the Mamiya 645AF/AFD/AFD II and the New RZ67 Pro IID medium format cameras.
The Mamiya ZD digital back provides full camera and back communications via
its MSC (Mamiya Serial Communication) data transfer. All important data such as
storage space, battery status, exposure data, capture status and much more is
communicated and displayed in the viewfinder and main data display of the 645AFD
II. It utilizes a 22 mega-pixel Dalsa CCD image capture sensor that is nearly 6
x 4.5cm. It captures exceptionally high resolution, sharp images with rich
smooth tones.
Now the legendary quality and reliability that has earned Mamiya film cameras
their respect in the photo community can easily bridge to digital imaging.
FEATURES:
22 Mega Pixel CCD The 36mm x 48mm Dalsa CCD imaging sensor contains 22 million active pixels (total 4008h x 5344v). The 14 bit A/D (Analog to Digital) conversion provides exceptional true-to-life color accuracy.
ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Data
transfer from the Dalsa CCD sensor is processed in real- time with its
exclusively designed Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). The
advantage to the photographer is that image data captured from the sensor is
optimized for fast performance. With a frame capture rate of 1.2 fps, it’s one
of the fastest 22 Mega pixel digital Medium-Format capture backs in the
industry.
Dual Storage Card Slots for Compact Flash and SD cards The Mamiya ZD provides card slots for both Compact Flash (CF) and Secure Data (SD) - two of the most popular card types. By having the choice of cards (both can be inserted at the same time) you get additional flexibility of storage options. It also guarantees you will be able to go to any store in the world and find a compatible storage card.. Approximately 100 images in Mamiya RAW format can be stored onto a 4GB CF card.
Store files as RAW, JPEG or both at the same time
The advantages are significant. For optimum results you should save your shots in RAW format - this allows the maximum degree of post-shooting manipulation. For high quality images that need to instantly be placed into other programs, simply use jpeg mode - there’s no need for special programs or "processing" of the image. However, when you need the highest quality plus a file that can quickly be used for positioning only (FPO) in layouts, or quick review, you can shoot both at the same time and process the RAW file later - this allows you to get a good quality file that does not have to be processed prior to use.
Removable IR/Lowpass Filter
No other system offers this feature. All other systems have the IR Cut filter permanently attached. The IR filter reduces Infra red light from negatively affecting the chip. Without it the images would be of lower quality and have false colors due to the IR light that the sensor sees (human eyes do not). This filter is in all cameras or they would not be usable outdoors. The Lowpass filter (optional accessory) reduces moiré effect which makes unusual patterns when photographing clothes with repeating patterns and also fixes aliasing. Aliasing is seen when a thin straight line is slightly tilted with respect to the array of pixels. The line will be on one row of pixels, then jump to the next then to the next. It produces a "stair step" effect. Adding the Lowpass filter reduces or removes this effect. By being able to decide which filter to use, the photographer can get the best possible results under a wide range of lighting conditions.
Easy-to-understand Auto White balance icons
This full range of white balance icons, not words or letters, makes it easier for everyone to understand. And since the AWB control has so many choices to set at the time of shooting – daylight, flash, overcast, shadows, etc. - you actually reduce the need to make color balance changes later with the software. This is a time saving benefit that users will appreciate and use often. For greater precision you can control color balance in 100˚ K increments.
Lockable capture folder prevents accidentally trashing the captured files
This is a great feature that shows how aware Mamiya is when it comes to the problems of photographers in the digital world. You can actually lock the folder you are saving to and prevent accidental erasure!
The included Mamiya Digital PhotoStudio Software allows exposure control, focusing, metering adjustments, ISO setting and firing the camera through the computer
This feature allows the photographer to set up the shot (especially product shots, still-life and document photography) and then fine-tune the exposure without the need to touch the camera or lens. This is a major time saver and is extremely convenient. Currently compatible with Windows XP and Macintosh G4/G5 towers (Dual and Quad). Limited compatibility with Intel Macintosh computers.
A FREE copy of Adobe Lightroom with the purchase of a digital back
This new, highly acclaimed software makes using digital more convenient and lets you get results that need only minimal adjustments. This is an excellent program that makes the most common adjustments for the photographer from the minute it opens the file. Lightroom can open the Mamiya RAW files without the need for Mamiya software.
Compatible with Mamiya 645AF*/AFD/AFD II and Mamiya RZ67 Pro IID
In addition to these current models, adapters will soon be available for older RZ67, RB67, viewfinder cameras and more. (*see Free firmware upgrade info below)
Free firmware upgrade for Mamiya 645AF owners
Usually a $429 upgrade (needed for proper interface between the camera and ZD Digital Back), Mamiya 645AF owners can get their camera’s electronics and firmware upgraded to a Mamiya 645AFD. Limited time offer.
