Q. What is the "M" setting near my older RB
lens’ synch terminal for?
A. This setting was used for flashbulbs only. With electronic flash, always
use "X". The current KL series of RB lenses no longer have the "M" setting.
Q. Can RZ lenses and backs be adapted to work on my RB?
A. No. The RB will only accept RB backs and lenses.
Q. I just purchased the Flip-up Magnifier/Diopter and cannot get it
to attach to my prism. What is wrong?
A. You have one of the original RB prisms. You will need to have the newer
type of eyepiece installed on your prism. Contact Mamiya America’s Service Dept.
to have this procedure done.
Q. Will the current KL lenses fit my Pro S body?
A. Yes they will, except for the 75mm shift and 500mm APO. Make sure you
remove the spacer ring located around the lens’ rear element.
Q. What is the purpose of the spacer ring?
A. The spacer ring gives RB lenses a tighter fit onto the KL body with its
larger opening. It also provides extra protection against light leaks. If one is
not available, you may mount a lens without it.
Q. Will my RB lenses and backs work on an RZ?
A. The lenses will, but there will be no AE metering possible. There once was
a device called the "G Adapter" that permitted RB backs to attach to the RZ, but
it has been unavailable for many years.
Q. What type of battery does the RB 67 use?
A. The RB is a completely mechanical camera. It requires no battery and has
no ISO settings. However, if you purchase the optional PD prism finder, it will
use a 6V PX-28 battery. The power drive magazine uses 4 "AA" batteries.
Q. I noticed that the end of one of my shutter blades is bent
slightly upwards. Is this going to become a problem?
A. No. This is normal. The shutter is designed this way to prevent blade
collisions.
Q. I have just taken a long exposure in the "T" setting with an older
RB lens. How do I close the shutter without shaking the camera?
A. With these lenses, the shutter can only be closed by slightly moving the
cocking lever or turning the shutter speed dial off of "T". Many photographers
will cover the lens first with a dark object to avoid blurring their images. The
KL series of lenses may be closed with a cable release.
Q. What speeds will RB lenses synch with flash at?
A. The leaf shutter in RB lenses will synch at all speeds. (1 sec.-1/400)
Q. May I use 120 film in a 220 back and vice-versa?
A. Do this only in an emergency. The pressure plates of the two backs are
slightly different to allow for the presence/lack of paper backing. The
difference in the film plane may cause focus problems at wide apertures.
Squeezing 120 film and paper through 220 rollers designed for film only will
strain the back’s advance mechanism. Also, the 120 back’s counter will release
after exposure #10 and waste the second half of a 220 roll. The 220 back’s
counter will continue past #10, running the risk of shooting on the leader paper
if strict attention is not paid to the counter.
