Q. Which flash works best with my 645 PRO or
PRO TL?
A. The PRO TL will work with almost any flash sold. Purchase one that suits
your type of photography and budget. If you wish through the lens metering (PRO
TL only), purchase one of the Metz or Quantum units along with the appropriate
module(s). If you are using a flash designed for another brand of camera, make
sure that you have it set in a "manual" or "auto" mode. Never use it in
"program" or "TTL" modes, since you may damage the flash and/or the camera. If
uncertain, consult the flash’s manufacturer.
Q. What accessories from my 645 Super will work with the PRO and
vice-versa?
A. The PRO cameras will accept the Super’s backs, winder and AE prism. The
PRO’s backs and Winder II will work with the Super. The PRO’s AE Prism and SV
Reflex finder will mount onto the Super, but meter incorrectly. The SV Winder
will not work at all on the Super. All 645 manual focus cameras share the same
lenses.
Q. What speed should I set the body’s shutter when using a leaf
shutter lens without the Winder II?
A. Set it to 1/8.
Q. Will the PRO TL give me TTL flash metering with the hot
shoe?
A. No. TTL flash metering can be obtained only while a proper flash/module
combination is attached to the camera’s TTL outlet and synch terminal.
Q. How is the focus screen changed?
A. Remove the lens and look for a small silver circle at the 12:00 position.
Place a pen point into the middle of the circle and slide it to the left. The
screen will lower in its holder for removal. Grasp the tab of the screen and
gently remove it. Reverse the process for installation, pushing the holder up
until it clicks into place. NEVER remove the screws under the prism to access
the screen. Internal damage may result.
Q. Can the PRO cameras be operated without a battery?
A. No. Always carry a spare, especially in cold weather.
Q. Which lens will the 2x teleconverter work with?
A. It works best with the 150mm-500mm lenses and the 50mm shift lens. It
cannot be used with the zoom lenses since the rear element of both lenses will
be in the way.
Q. How to I interpret focal lengths with the 35mm back in
use?
A. Use the 645 focal lengths the way you will with a 35mm camera. For
example, the wide-angle 55mm lens used when shooting 6 x 4.5 becomes "normal"
when shooting 35mm. A "normal" 80mm lens for 6 x 4.5 format becomes a telephoto
for 35mm.
Q. I would like a tighter head shot with my 150mm lens. Is this
possible?
A. Yes. Extension tube #2 will allow you to get close enough to fill the
frame with someone’s face.
Q. Do I need a diopter to help with focusing?
A. Diopters will correct simple near or farsightedness when focusing without
glasses or contact lenses. They will make your PRO sort of a "prescription"
camera. Use the "-" series if you are nearsighted; the "+" if you are
farsighted.
Q. May I use 120 film on a 220 insert and vice-versa?
A. Do this only in an emergency. The pressure plates of the two inserts are
slightly different to allow for the presence/lack of paper backing on the film.
The difference in the film plane may cause focus problems at wide apertures.
Squeezing 120 film and paper through 220 rollers (designed for film only) will
strain the back’s advance mechanism. Also, the 120 insert will cause the back’s
counter will release after exposure #15 and waste the second half of a 220 roll.
The 220 insert will cause the back’s counter will continue past #15, running the
risk of shooting on the leader paper if strict attention is not paid to the
counter. The 645 PRO magazines are identical; it is the insert used that
determines what frame the counter will stop at.
